Client: The Harpur Trust
Duration: 24 Weeks
The Palmer’s and Nash buildings are two large, three story Victorian houses on De Parys Avenue in Bedford, and Neville Special Projects was awarded the contract to carry out alterations and refurbishments over two consecutive years, focussing mainly around the school holiday periods. Due to the nature of the buildings, the works carried out had to be sympathetic to the Victorian heritage, at the same time meeting local planning constraints.
The Palmer’s building was stripped out, with some structural alterations carried out to provide larger open planned areas for teaching.
The Nash Building was refurbished throughout, and included the removal of the rear single storey flat roof extension, converting it to a pitched roof.
A new single storey link extension was built, providing a new main entrance between the Palmer’s and Nash buildings. A rear extension was fitted out as a new changing room and toilet area.
Throughout both buildings, new mechanical, electrical and IT systems were installed, and were decorated internally and externally, with all of the front elevation timber windows renovated.
External areas were reconfigured to provide new pedestrian access and dedicated parking areas.
