Due to our growth plans, we have an opportunity for a qualified Quantity Surveyor to join our busy, friendly team on a permanent basis. Working in close liaison with the project management teams, you will be responsible for day-to-day quantity surveying and commercial management on projects with values up to £15,000,000. Working in accordance with company procedures, you will manage project commercial functions, carry out subcontract procurement,
Investigate, reconcile, validate and report against the contract sum or agreed cost plans
Diligently review contract provisions and client procedures
Produce and present monthly cost reconciliation reports
Monitor and advise on procurement budgets and take an active role in agreeing strategies
Monitor and advise on contract package scope and methods of procurement
Monitor and manage contract risks and opportunities
Produce enquiry and subcontract documentation
Analyse bid returns (where applicable) and negotiate subcontract packages
Produce and submit monthly client applications for payment
Negotiate acceptable certifications
Receive, review, assess and validate subcontractor applications for payment
Seek and manage client variations/change order instructions
Monitor, manage and price change for best value generation and recovery
Ensure all formal notices are made effectively and on time
Monitor programmes, delays and disruption for future recovery as necessary
Conclude all commercial functions to final account stage
Develop and maintain excellent client and consultant relations
Role
Experience and Attributes
Previous experience of running projects as the commercial lead
Previous experience of procurement of subcontractors
Previous experience of managing multiple, simultaneous subcontract accounts
Working knowledge of JCT/NEC forms of contract
Experience of producing monthly cost reporting/CVRs
Ability to communicate confidently with both external and internal teams
Ability to present plans clearly and accurately
A pragmatic approach to finding practical solutions
Articulate and precise in all communications, both written and verbal
Experience of various construction methods
Keeps up to date with current legislation, regulations and codes of practice
Excellent organisational skills, able to "own" the job from inception to completion
You must hold an appropriate, in-date CSCS card for your role/grade, supported by a relevant recognised qualification (e.g. NVQ, HNC/HND or degree, or equivalent) as evidence of competence. Cards held under CSCS ‘grandfather rights’ (i.e. without an underpinning qualification) will not be accepted.
HND or degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying (or other commercially related discipline)
Appropriate grade, current CSCS card (see Security & Vetting below)
Full, clean UK driving licence
Minimum 5 years' similar experience with a contractor
Well-presented and of smart appearance
Computer literate in all Microsoft Office products
Many of our projects are delivered for clients operating in highly regulated and security-sensitive sectors, including policing, airports/aviation and central and local government. Security vetting is therefore a strong requirement for this role. You will need to:
Have a full right to work in the UK
Have been continuously resident in the UK for a minimum of the last 5 years
Be willing and able to undergo DBS, BPSS and/or other client-led security vetting or clearance checks, which may be required at any point depending on project, site or client requirements
Be willing to disclose, and openly discuss at interview, any previous convictions, cautions or other matters that could affect the outcome of a vetting or clearance application
Please note that failure to meet, or subsequently maintain, the security vetting requirements of a project may affect your ability to be deployed to certain sites or contracts.
Package
Full time, permanent. Standard hours of work are between 7.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Salary
£60,000 – £80,000 per year with car allowance, dependent on experience
