Small Works & Frameworks Contracts Manager

£55,000 – £65,000, dependent on experience

Due to growth in our workload, we have an opportunity for an experienced Small Works & Frameworks Contracts Manager to join our busy, friendly team on a permanent basis. Working in close liaison with the small works team, you will be responsible for day-to-day contracts management on a wide variety of projects with values up to £1,000,000, for a number of key public sector and private clients working on their smaller works frameworks. Your role will be to oversee work with key clients to ensure works are completed to the client's satisfaction, ensuring best practice and cost effectiveness at all stages of the project, alongside the health and safety of our own staff, subcontractors and all end users.

  • Responsible for quality management and compliance, customer service, stakeholder management and commercial performance

  • Identify risk and develop mitigation strategies

  • Lead and mentor a project team of site managers, working foremen and tradespeople, internal staff and subcontractors

  • Responsible for the progress of the contracts under your control

  • Establish a close working relationship with the client and attend site visits

  • Establish close working relationships with our suppliers, subcontractors, contractors and construction workers

  • Monitor and manage contract risks and opportunities

  • Oversee all onsite and offsite construction to monitor and ensure compliance with building and safety regulations

  • Oversee multiple projects at any one time, with the support of internal and external teams

  • Collaborate with the project team on commercial management and controls

  • Support the estimators on tender documents and technical details

  • Support the Construction Director on daily project activities where required

Role

Experience and Attributes

  • Previous experience of running projects

  • Working knowledge of contracts and their risks

  • Ability to communicate confidently with both external and internal teams

  • Ability to present plans clearly and accurately

  • A pragmatic approach to finding practical solutions

  • Articulate and precise in all communications, both written and verbal

  • Experience of various construction methods

  • Keeps up to date with current legislation, regulations and codes of practice

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Experience of producing tender and project stage programmes and logistics plans


You must hold an appropriate, in-date CSCS card for your role/grade, supported by a relevant recognised qualification (e.g. NVQ, HNC/HND or degree, or equivalent) as evidence of competence. Cards held under CSCS ‘grandfather rights’ (i.e. without an underpinning qualification) will not be accepted.


  • HND, NVQ or degree (or equivalent) in a construction-related discipline, or qualified by experience

  • Appropriate grade, current CSCS card, ideally Black/Professional Qualification (see Security & Vetting below)

  • SMSTS

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

  • Required to wear full company-issued uniform and PPE at all times while on site

  • Minimum 5 years' similar experience with a contractor

  • Computer literate in all Microsoft Office products, and able to use planning software (e.g. Asta)


Many of our projects are delivered for clients operating in highly regulated and security-sensitive sectors, including policing, airports/aviation and central and local government. Security vetting is therefore a strong requirement for this role. You will need to:

  • Have a full right to work in the UK

  • Have been continuously resident in the UK for a minimum of the last 5 years

  • Be willing and able to undergo DBS, BPSS and/or other client-led security vetting or clearance checks, which may be required at any point depending on project, site or client requirements

  • Be willing to disclose, and openly discuss at interview, any previous convictions, cautions or other matters that could affect the outcome of a vetting or clearance application


Please note that failure to meet, or subsequently maintain, the security vetting requirements of a project may affect your ability to be deployed to certain sites or contracts.

Package

Full time, office and site based. Standard hours of work are between 7.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, although some flexibility will be required.


Salary

£55,000 – £65,000, dependent on experience
