Client: Luton Borogh Council
Duration: 42 Weeks
Neville Special Projects were contracted for the internal refurbishment of the Central wing and erection of new steel-framed classroom blocks, entrance lobby, and associated external works. Including internal/external specialist fit-outs of Hydrotherapy pool, Trampoline room, Rock n Roll room and two playgrounds with specialist surfacing.
The team had to overcome significant planning and programming issues to accommodate the clients’ requirements and the challenge of having five classrooms available for the intake of students in early September, with only commencing works in June.
The site was a live school environment with a number of challenges. Deliveries were planned around school drop-off and pickup times, refurbishment areas and works needed to be coordinated with the school holidays so areas could be completed without affecting live operations in term times.
We have had to increase incoming supply capacity to power the entire school while awaiting a new 630 KVA substation from UKPN, which didn’t happen within the project timescales due to legal issues. We also had asbestos-related issues in several areas, which all had to be managed and dealt with in the correct way and under license.
