Client: Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue
Duration: 35 weeks
Neville Special Projects were contracted with the refurbishment and modernisation of St Neots fire station, including externals, to maintain the suitability of the fire station for future use.
This is the county’s first carbon-neutral fire station and creating a modern, sustainable hub for firefighters and the local community.
The project, commissioned by Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service and managed by Ingleton Wood, has transformed the site with a host of sustainability measures including heat pumps, solar panels, upgraded thermal efficiencies and electric vehicle charging bays. The refurbishment also extended and reconfigured the building, providing new offices, welfare facilities, a purpose-built gym, enhanced meeting spaces, and additional on-site parking.
The challenges of this contract include maintaining an operating Fire Station throughout, thanks to the teams’ organisational skills in managing a live Fire station, but it should also be clear that the Fire Service were a very helpful and amenable client..
